Be Teachable

May 31, 2012

In one of my favorite books, Wild at Heart, author John Eldredge connects the direct link between a man’s ability to proliferate and how he is mentored and mentors other men. To put it simply, God wired men to learn from one another. The need for that experience has passed down from Adam to Seth all the way to King David down to Joseph, Paul, you and me.

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

-Proverbs 15:22

This morning I was blessed to be invited by a mentor of mine, Dave Cash, to a bible study that him and a group of older men do every Thursday morning at @PaneraBread. I’ve always felt so blessed to learn from older men. Men who have much more life experience, wisdom, and whit than myself.

Obtaining Wisdom

I missed out on so much in my younger youth by not living in the season of life upon which I was in. I had so many wise, wealthy, and willing older men around me that would have poured into extensively had I ask. I played golf every weekend with Lowes Exectuives, many who retired at age 40. I have an uncle, Junior Johnson, who is in the NASCAR hall of fame, and has made millions in the business world.

and used to eat lunch with one of the wealthiest men in North Carolina, Pete Kulynych.

While I recognized I missed out on some life experiences from the blindness of my youth, the cool thing about your life is you never have to wait one moment to change it.

None of us can go back and make a brand new beginning, but all of us can start right now and make a brand new ending.

I’ve promised myself, that never again will I miss an opportunity to obtain wisdom, and thats why I’ve made it a priority to make Thursday’s mornings with the gang, part of my week. All Glory to God!
