Seattle …day two

May 4, 2012

Speaking smeeking. I had a great day today on stage and some great conversation with the attendees off stage, but the real fun began when I went into Seattle for some touring.

Last Sunday, pastor @larryhubatka gave me the local scoop on where to visit while I was in Seattle.

On my way downtown I was lucky enough to have a knowledgeable cab driver who spoke great english. He gave me my own personalized mini tour of the city that was more informative than anything I could find in a brochure. If you are ever in Seattle, make sure you ride with, Constantine of Air Express. Here are just a few things I learned:

  • How can you tell who is a tourist in Seattle? …They carry umbrellas
  • More folks bike to work here than in any other city in the U.S. – and Seattle was the first city to put cops on bikes, too.
  • Seattle is HQ for some of the best companies in America. Here is just a few:
    1. Microsoft (#37 in Fortune 500)
    2. Starbucks (#227)
    3. Amazon (#56)
    4. Nordstrom (#242)
    5. Boeing (#39)

Of course I can’t forget to mention @Benhuh since he came and spoke in Charlotte a couple weeks back. His company, Cheezburger, operates many humor web blogs such as I Can Has Cheezburger and FAIL Blog.

My first stop for the night is the most famous site in Seattle…

The Space Needle

Built in 1962, the Space Needle served as the symbol of that year’s World’s Fair. One thing I learned about the structure, that I thought was fantastic, was that the Space Needle is privately owned and managed. WOW!

Once on top, I ordered some coffee and began my sightseeing… Here are some picture I took from the top.

I stayed in the Space Needle until night time to see the view of the city when all the lights come on. It was incredible!

One thing that I loved about Seattle is that there are bodies of water surrounding the city. It is so beautiful to see.

O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your possessions” – Psalm 104: 24

After I had seen everything, it was time for dinner and I was on a SEAFOOD diet! My driver pointed me to a spot on the water called, The Crab Pot, and boy was it good. It was a neat place. You don’t have plates or anything like that, just a napkin and some tiny fork. They through all the food on the table and you just dig in. I must say, it was some of the best seafood I have ever had. Wild salmon + crab legs + clams + oysters…. = YUM!

It was goodnight for me after that and I went to bed full!
